About Steady & Simple

A site about the gear that makes ordinary days easier after 65 — written by one person, funded by Amazon commissions, and honest about both.

An older person's hands held in another's

Who writes this

Selena H. is the owner of Steady & Simple. She started the site after too many hours spent working out which phone, which jar opener, which chair would actually suit someone whose hands or eyes have stopped co-operating — and finding that most “best of” lists never mention that problem at all.

She reads the specifications, the measurements and the one-star reviews so you do not have to. Every page on this site carries her byline, because one person writes them.

Why the site exists

Almost every product guide on the internet sorts by price. That is useless if the thing stopping you is that you cannot grip the lid, cannot read the screen, or cannot hear the person on the phone. The question is not “what is the best jar opener” — it is “what opens a jar when one hand does not work any more”.

So every roundup here has a “pick by what’s hard” block: picks grouped by the limitation you actually have. It is the thing nobody else in this category does, and it is why these pages are worth reading rather than skimming.

What we do, and what we don’t

We research products. We do not test them in a lab. There is no test bench, no team of testers, and no stack of samples in a spare room. We read manufacturer specifications, retailer listings, measurements, weights and button sizes, and owner reviews — the critical ones first.

We do not take payment for a recommendation. No manufacturer pays to appear here, and affiliate commission does not change the order of our picks. Where the best answer for a reader is a product we earn nothing from, we say so on the page — and that happens often enough that you will notice it.

We do not print prices. Amazon prices move daily, so instead of a number that is wrong by next week, every product has a button that checks today’s price.

We do not give medical advice. Pages that touch on health describe what equipment does, not what you should do about your own health. That is a conversation with your doctor or an occupational therapist.

Who publishes it
